Early season skiing is a lot like building a compliance program. If you put too many controls in place, not enough of your trails open, so everything grinds to a halt. We saw that at Park City yesterday. There was beautiful terrain but they wouldn’t let us onto it. On the other hand, if you put too few controls in place, your skiers are running over rocks and ruining their skis. We saw that at the Canyons this weekend when they opened some questionable runs. Sure, there was a sign warning of thin cover, but that might not have been enough to keep all those skis from getting scratched.Instead, you need to understand your risks and aim for the right balance. Open your trails so your people can ski, but find ways to keep their skis in good shape for the season. And above all else, do whatever it takes to avoid creating lines or slow downs. Vail, I’m looking at you.

Discover the joy that comes when you pause, breathe, and let nature be your escape.Nature has this incredible way of rejuvenating our spirits and allowing us to reconnect with ourselves. My favourite winter sport is skiing!Any skiers here? It's not just a sport; it's a chance to embrace the serene beauty of winter landscapes while experiencing the thrill of gliding through snow-covered slopes.Imagine being on that chairlift, ascending to the mountaintop, surrounded by breathtaking views that stretch as far as the eye can see.The crisp air, the quiet beauty of the snow-covered trees, and the vastness of the landscape—it's like stepping into a different world, away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.Skiing combines physical activity with the tranquility of the mountains, offering a holistic experience for mind, body, and soul.As a functional medicine coach, I often emphasize the importance of finding activities that not only keep us physically active but also nourish our mental and emotional well-being.So, the next time you're on that chairlift, take a moment to soak it all in.#skiing#mountainviews#winterfun#skibum#chairliftviews#skicanada#rockymountainskiing#outdooradventures#naturenutures

People ask me all the time: "What are ski areas doing about climate change?"The answer is: fighting like hell with technology.Ski Ward, a 220-vertical-foot-molehill in Massachusetts, just became the first ski area in North America to open for the 2023-24 ski season. How? With an assist from a $600,000 machine that can make snow in 80-degree weather:#skiing #climatechange #climateadaptation #snow #smallbusiness

I compare starting a new business to going on holiday, It’s not how you get there be it 1st class or economy. It is not about where you stay be it 5 star or 1 star. But it is what you do when whilst yourthere and the adventures you have along the way.Sure, they will be ups and a downs just like a skiing holiday (see what I did there 😂 ) but once you have found your feet it will be all plain sailing, especially if you find a fantastic accountant to navigate you through, Unico 3 Limited for example. So, take the plunge and don’t be scared to get your feet wet.#startupsupport #acccounting #holidayvibes

Trust yourself – get out of your way!We get in our own way. It’s a fact. I know I have. The voice in our head (narratives) are ever present to hold us back. Though it is counter-intuitive, action is the answer.I love skiing. In skiing, leaning into the downward slope places weight on the front of the skies giving the skier control. Totally counterintuitive when the voice in your head and every cell in your brain wants you to lean back, especially on steeper slopes. But leaning forward, though counterintuitive, is what gives a skier control. It is possible (in skiing and otherwise). How?Start with your narrative. How is your narrative holding you back? 1.Commit: lean into your narrative2.Take another small step against the narrative3.Push through the discomfort4.RepeatThe discomfort leaves as your new narrative embeds itself. That’s how I became a good skier. (Not without some spectacular falls!)Image of my last ski trip in Hintertux, Austria on a particularly cold day!
