Adopt Ginger Rose on Petfinder (2024)

Ginger Rose ACCT-A-166722 is a 2-year-old female who came in as an owner surrender on 6/14, due to perceived behavioral issues and inability to provider all the care she needs. A nervous young lady who's just looking to be a fun & faithful friend, she's hoping to find a compassionate, patient caregiver who can guide her through this new chapter in her life.

She's available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm!

Behavioral notes:
Per Volunteer 6/19/24: Ginger rose is a shy and sweet gal. Excited to come out of her kennel. Did her own thing in the play yard and likes to explore and trek around. Was interested in my treats, but did not eat them. Was still a little nervous and was doing some exit searching but an easy dog to handle.

Per Staff 6/16/24: Ginger Rose got out to stretch her legs today! She was laying on her bed when I got to her, and sat up when she saw me. I opened the door and crouched down, and started to call her. She took a few minutes but came up on her own with soft eyes, ears back, and a few low was. She let me place the leash over her and came right out. Ginger Rose walks SO NICELY on leash, she barely pulls, unless she wants to get somewhere. She was a little nervous around the gates we went through to get to the yard, but I was able to usher her through without issue. In the yard she was pretty avoidant with both handlers, and didn't seek out any attention. She was tolerant of pets that I gave her, but she did not lean into any or seek any out. Ginger Rose was even more avoidant of the other handler and would not approach her or allow the handler to pet her at all (would just stay out of arms reach). Ginger spent most of the time curled up in a corner of the yard, looking out past the gate at the street. She did not show any interest in toys or treats that were offered to her either. Poor Ginger is so stressed here, she began exit searching in the yard, trying to jump up and climb the fence. She did have a good fence meet with another female dog. Her tail finally came up and did some wags. After her dog meet she seemed a little more confident, and kept her tail low. Neutral instead of tucked. She wasn't persistent, but it was still sad to see. When I noticed she was panting heavily we went back inside. Ginger walked with a bit more confidence back to the kennel. She had some pep her in her step and her tail was neutral. She returned without issue and climbed right back into bed.

Per Staff 6/15/24: Ginger Rose is terrified to be here! It took me a good 5 minutes to get her out of her kennel. She was shaking so badly. I sat with her and talked to her nicely, she allowed me to gently pet her but I could tell she was uncomfortable. She eventually came out of the kennel on her own and walked fine on the leash. She met with a potential adopter, she did not solicit and pets or attention and kept looking for a way out. We took her outside and she seemed to open up a bit out there. She met with another dog as well and did fine. We walked back to the kennel without issue and she went in on her own. Seems like a really great girl, she is just so so scared.

Eval 6/15: Very scared but very tolerant. Allowed all handling but go super slow!! Did not see any over arousal as stated by previous owner; hid and trembled instead. 15+ due to fear, experienced adopters/fosters preferred.

Per Staff 6/15/24: During Ginger Rose's dog meet today was was tense and avoidant, but was unreactive. I think she would do okay with a slow intro to other dogs.

During Ginger Rose's behavioral assessment on 6/15, staff noted: Ginger Rose came into the eval room very nervous. She was very stressed and yawned and lip licked while looking at the handlers. She tolerated being near but not too close. Ginger tolerated some pets and allowed me to touch all over her. She didn't give me any signs that she was uncomfortable and even stopped shaking. She didn't accept any treats and sort of warmed up with pets. Ginger sniffed the handler's face and came closer and closer. She continued to be nervous but was less tense and fearful. Ginger prefers space and time.

Ginger Rose lived with one adult, was medium energy, is housebroken, and partially crate-trained.

Per staff on 6/14/24: Spoke to owners asked why did she write down the reason for surrender was "dog bit" she replied "That's what she told me to put" I said if the dog didn't actually bite you should not put that down. She said that they do not have time for the dog, owner stated the dog got out from the yard and saw a man jogging and chased after him, jumped up and scratched him. Owner stated the dog gets over aroused/over stimulated while seeing other animals and people running.

Per staff on 6/14: Owner demanded to surrender the dog. she said the dog bit someone. i asked if she had pictures of the bite, she said yes, then walked back what she said and asked, what do you mean by pictures. she doesn't have any. when i told her that the dog would likely get euthanized due to bite history, she said that's fine. i asked if she was requesting the euthanasia herself, she said no. she said this never happened before, she was opening the door, the dog must've gotten out because she said the man was running and the dog bit him. then corrected herself and said the dog didn't bite, actually just scratched. happened 2 days ago. also said they just don't have time to take care of the dog in between her story. talked to management about this. she asked to get more info on the dog as she looks like she may have had puppies. she said she had puppies a year ago. seems to be dog reactive.

Medical notes:

During an intake exam on 6/14, staff found Ginger Rose in good general health.
